Emirates keen to help A.P. build airport at Amaravati

Wings up: Emirates has also been approached by Madhya Pradesh to help upgrade the Indore and Bhopal airports.

Airline will provide technical inputs, but won’t invest: V-P
Emirates, one of the world’s finest airlines, is keen to help the Andhra Pradesh government to build a new airport at Amaravati, the State’s new capital in the making.

The State government had recently invited the airline to invest in the construction of a greenfield airport and to set up a hub and MRO facility there.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had also urged Emirates to help build the capacity at the existing airport at Vizag, upgrade it and to operate flights from the coastal city and other places of the state to Dubai.

“We have been welcomed by Andhra Pradesh to assist in the new airport project. We were invited for a visit. I have seen the master plan and it is fabulous,” said Essa Sulaiman Ahmad, vice-president, India & Nepal, Emirates.

“We will be happy to provide inputs and technical expertise to help the State build a great airport. But we will not be investing in the airport. We are keen to help and are evaluating steps, but it all depends on the green signal from the Indian government at the Centre,” he said.

    Positive sign

“We are happy that the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Indian government are looking at civil aviation in a positive way and we are hopeful that Amravati will have a magnificent airport. We will be happy to help,” he added. Emirates has also been approached by the Madhya Pradesh government to help in airport upgradation at Indore and Bhopal.

The Hyderabad airport, which is now in Telangana, witnessed phenomenal growth under Mr. Naidu when he was the chief minister of the undivided State. The then Hyderabad was not an important destination in Emirate’s network.

But as Mr. Naidu initiated many reforms, Hyderabad gained prominence and Emirates, which had then operated three flights a week, increased the frequency to eight and now operates 21 flights a week to Dubai.

Emirates officials said that Mr. Naidu was keen to replicate that success at Amaravati and at other airports in his State. He wanted Emirates to operate flights to Vizag, but unless more capacity is assigned Emirates cannot operate. Currently, the governments of UAE and India are discussing to increase the bilaterals which have been exhausted completely. Indian and Dubai carriers are flying 65,200 seats each a week and have asked for more.

“We are looking for new opportunities in India but we are restricted by capacity. We want to fly to more destinations and allocate more capacity, but it all depends on the two governments to increase the bilaterals,” Mr. Ahmad.

Emirates currently flies 175 wide-body flights a week to nine destinations in India, while Indian carriers are flying 358 flights a week from 18 Indian destinations to Dubai, which indicates Emirates has a vast scope for expansion.

    Amaravati must be slum-free: CM
    VIJAYAWADA, NOVEMBER 03, 2017 00:00 IST
    UPDATED: NOVEMBER 03, 2017 05:04 IST

Naidu calls for canal navigation in connectivity plans
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday ordered the officials of the A.P.-Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) to strategise the development of Amaravati in such a way that it was free from slums and had appropriate housing and layouts providing shelter to the local population.

At a review meeting on the CRDA projects at his residence here, Mr. Naidu said there should be room for canal navigation forming a part of the connectivity plans and suggested that special purpose vehicles be formed for that purpose.

CRDA Commissioner Cherukuri Sreedhar told the CM that almost 70% of the projects had passed the tender stage and were ready for grounding. The focus was now on procuring materials — gravel, hard granite metal and sand — from within the capital region. It was decided to utilise fly ash to a large extent. Mr. Sreedhar said 10 hotels had confirmed their projects and 1,200 rooms might be available by 2020.

A 42-acre site had been identified along the banks of river Krishna where MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) projects were planned to be implemented at a cost of Rs. 1,200 crore.

Addressing media persons later, Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana said infrastructure work would begin in Amaravati on November 9 and it was decided to use shear-wall technology in the construction of houses for the poor.

Principal Secretaries Ajay Jain and Satish Chandra and Amaravati Development Corporation CMD D. Lakshmi Parthasaradhi were present.

Bullet train to link Hyderabad with Amaravati
By Patan Afzal Babu | THE HANS INDIA | Nov 07,2017 , 01:13 AM IST

Bullet train between Hyderabad and Amaravati

Hyderabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to announce the sanction of high-speed bullet train between Hyderabad and Amaravati, the new capital of Andhra Pradesh, during his visit to Hyderabad for the launch of much-awaited Metro Rail. Tentatively, Modi is scheduled to visit Hyderabad on November 27 or 28.The proposal to link the Telangana and Andhra capitals through a high-speed train was already under active consideration before the Union government. The high-speed train would be developed parallel to the National Highway 65 (formerly NH 9) between Hyderabad and Vijayawada. The proposal was placed before the Union government following the Centre’s nod to the elevation of NH 65 as Express Highway as part of the creation of growth corridor between the two states.A TRS MP told The Hans India that the Union ministry of Road Transport and National Highways was busy studying the feasibility of the high-speed train between the two states in coordination with the ministry of Railways. The preliminary reports prepared by the ministry hinted that the Centre will clear the proposal anytime.

The MP said the Prime Minister expressed interest in taking up the high-speed train between the two state capitals during a recent meeting with the ministries concerned. ‘’Modi is also keen to announce the project during his visit to Hyderabad,” he said.As per the proposal the highway connecting Hyderabad and Vijayawada on the stretch of 270 km would be upgraded to eight lanes on a par with the Mumbai and Pune Expressway, the first express highway laid by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in the country.Simultaneously, the works to lay tracks for high-speed train would also be taken up. Railways and Union ministry of Road Transport have already agreed in principle to the two proposals last year. The land acquisition for express highway was already completed during the upgradation of NH65 as a four-lane in 2010.The main objective behind forwarding the two proposals is to increase road and rail connectivity between the two capital cities and create a growth corridor like the one coming up between Chennai and Bengaluru. The corridor between the two states would help in establishing more industrial zones and invite huge investments from the private sector, which would bolster the economies of both the states.
